Mr. Seelig served as President of the 10,000 member NYC Correction Officers Benevolent Association, Inc. (COBA) from July 1, 1979 through December 31, 1992. He was Co-chairman of the 40,000 NYS Peace Officer Association, Vice Chairman of the NYC Municipal Labor Committee, and a co-founder of the first Uniform Force Coalition. That coalition negotiated contracts for over 50,000 Police, Firefighters, Correction Officers. and Sanitation Workers.

As part of his numerous responsibilities while serving as the COBA president, Mr. Seelig was Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the union’s active and retiree welfare benefit funds as well of its annuity fund.

Mr. Seelig has appeared on dozens of national and local tv shows including Sally Jesse Rafael and Larry King. In 1983 Mr. Seelig appeared with Doctor Fauci to discuss the implications of HIV positive inmates in NYC

After retiring with 20 years of uniformed service he resigned from his union leadership positions. Commencing in 1993 Mr. Seelig has been a practicing attorney and partner of four separate law firms. He was Labor Counsel to the NYC Police Captains Endowment Association from 2008 through 2019. Phil Seelig is now the Senior Partner of two law firms, Seelig Law Offices, LLC and Seelig Dressler Ochani, LLC. Mr. Seelig has been retained by the Law Enforcement Employees Benevolent Association as its labor counsel.
